TIME TO KISS 2011 GOODBYE!

Well, 2011 is just a few moments away from being over, so I thought I'd lay down one last post before tackling another new year. So, here's a wrap up of some of the commissions that I was hired to do for X-Mas presents and some done as gifts from me. I really appreciate the people that wanted a piece of my art and what I could do for them. THANK YOU!!! I'm hoping 2012 brings tons of new work and I look forward to working with ya'all!  I've got a few secret projects I've been working on that shall be revealed in the next few months, more crazy ideas to lay down on the canvas and hopefully a Critterwitch comic book will see the light of day soon. Please stay tuned ,Enjoy and Happy New Year!

LATE AT NIGHT, WHEN THE INSOMNIA COMES, THE SHADOWGIRLS VISIT.

So, I suffer from insomnia big time. That's when my creativity seems to be at it's peak, when I can't sleep. So, I like to cuddle up with a couple glasses of wine, listen to the weird sounds that come from the woods behind the house, dip my brain in watercolors and gouache and tempura paints and conjure up some Shadowgirls. Here's a few recent ones spawned from those sleepless nights.

HER HAIR STAINED RED WITH BLOOD

FAMILIAR SPIRIT

I PLAY YOUR MEMORY

SHADOWGIRLS IN A SHADOWBOX

KAYAKO FRAMED

I don't really consider the next two to be part of the Shadowgirls series, but they were conjured up the same way.

THE HAUNTED HOUSE OF BEDIAS, TX!

As an artist, you gather tons and tons of pictures, jpegs, movie footage and junk of all kinds to use as reference for future works. It's always best to draw from real things instead of just your imagination. From there, you can take the reference and run with it, letting your imagination tweek and expand on the source material. But sometimes, you come across things that have so much personality that the object, or person, or thing needs very little tweeking.
The one thing that has stood out for me in this small nowhereville called Bedias, Texas, is this run down abandoned house I drive past everyday to go to the little store( the ONLY store in town). It's a perfect haunted house. Dead trees surround it. The paint is dry and chipping. No glass is on the windows. It's beautiful in it's haunting way. I had to take pictures of it, and it will, for sure, play a part in some painting or drawing or comic book someday.
It's my favorite thing in Bedias.

BLZ Bubz. Members of Satan's very own boy band! Done in my sketchbook with ink pen and markers.

DEMONS ANGELS AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN
. Took a drawing that I wasn't overall pleased with and fed it through Photoshop. Looks like it could be a cd cover for a J-Rock band.

Working on a super secret project that I can't wait to show when it's approved and a good handful of commissions. Of course, I'm always open for commissions, so keep 'em coming!

More artwork to be posted soon!

HUFFING ART DESTROYS YOUR BRAIN!

Lately I've been really getting into markers for the artworks. I hadn't really used markers in a long time, mostly because they don't blend and, well, once you make a mistake with one, then you're stuck with it. But, I do love the ultra saturated colors markers can give you and I can just lay back and go crazy with them. I like to grab just a regular black ink pen, find a random picture in a magazine, render it out and then just go nutsoid with the markers.
Maybe it's the fumes that emanate from them.

WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS!

Ah! Back to the artwork! Feels so good!
I, like most artists types, have TONS of reference books, comic books, dvd's and toys that took forever to unpack and organize and the process is still in the making. But, I did manage to create my space for getting back to the drawing board.

I've had a really good run of commissions to tackle and that also has kept me busy. Keep 'em coming!!
Here's a few pieces I've completed and wanted to share with ya!

The legendary Roy Orbison, painted in ink, ink wash, pastels & gouache on watercolor paper.

A character created by Hallie Martin, also known as Tear-Blossom Maiden over at DeviantArt, who commissioned me to draw her character- The Lord of Dragons. You can find her at http://tearblossom-maiden.deviantart.com/ . The artwork was created in ink, ink wash and enhanced in Photoshop.

A personal piece I did to honor the recent birthday of one of my all time fave actors-Boris Karloff. Created from ink, ink wash, gouache and a tad bit of Photoshop to tighten it up a bit.

And, a few quicky sketchies done to keep me in shape-

Dambala-The Voodoo God

The Daughter Of Nova. Influenced by my recent reading of the original novel of Planet of The Apes.

The Roar of Godzilla!

The Mad Hatter from Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland.

A fella I simply call Monsterface!

Okee Dokee! Back to the drawing board and more commissions to get to. Like I said-Keep 'em coming! If you are interested in any artwork from yours truly, simply email me at ragzter@aol.com. I'm always open for commissions

LONER IN THE LONE STAR!

I'M BACK!
The long journey from California to Texas has been one of long truck drives, torturous unpackings and tedious re-organizings of my life, but I have made it. It's a big culture shock being in this small town of simple folk. But, here I am regardless. Finally my art studio is in somewhat where I want it to be. The new drawing table has been assembled and ready for me to to violate with my twisted visions. I've got a small handful of commissions to begin and awaiting many more! Not much artwork has been done between my last post and now, but a few scribbles and sketches made their way to my small sketchbook, and I thought I'd share them with ya! Now, that I'm back in action, much more elaborate and complex works shall be in the postings. Enjoy!
